The Pink Flamingo Award

Showing spirit in an artistic manner

– At Grand Island. NAPM Binghamton establishes the “Grand Flam” by liberating the pink flamingo trophy.  Mate of pink flamingo also disappears at this time. Flamingos are named Fred and Joanie.

- At Lake Placid. NAPM Northern NY wins award by performing a duet “Lampshade Lampoon”. Meanwhile the “water follies” put on by NAPM Rochester and NAPM Syracuse, in the pool across the street go unnoticed by the award committee.

– At Corning. It was Mexico night. Las Tres Matadores of NAPM Finger Lakes won the award with their effort to duplicate the running of the bulls usually held in Pamplona Spain. NAPM – NY would latter try to duplicate this by staging the running of the moose in Lake Placid. Blue dress is raffled off to go with award. mortgage calculator loan calculator

– At Syracuse, pirate’s night. However, instead of pillaging and burning Armory Square with Backbeard and the crew, NAPM-Long Island choose to send a “citizen observer” along in a Syracuse PD patrol car.

- At Albany.  Two “old sports” from NAPM Syracuse win the award for their “Frisbee toss” with president McSherry. “Nice catch John”.

–At Rochester. An effort to pose like a statue of Apollo wins NAPM Eastern New York the award for “mooning the bar tender”. NAPM Rochester miffed for not winning the award on the spiral slide. NAPM-Twin Tiers would try to win award in similar manner in 1998 by “flashing the disc jockey”.

– At Albany. NAPM Rochester takes the award for “spiral staircase surfing”. (Head- first down the banister)

– In Albany. “Singing In the Rain”. NAPM Syracuse takes the award for “Spinning Sprinkler Spritzer” ballet. (If you can repeat that 3 times without screwing up, you may be ready for another spritzer)

– In Lake Placid. The long missing 2nd Flamingo finally shows up. Rumor is that it was wintering in central NJ. Since there are two flamingos, committee absent-mindedly gives two awards. One to NAPM-Buffalo for staging a grand “kidnapping caper”. The second to NAPM-New Jersey for their “hospitality suite tap dance”. Committee attempted to solicit a six-pack of Louenbrau Beer as a bribe.

–In Stamford CT. The flamingo flies away, then returns, landing on a piece of chocolate cake. NAPM-Twin Tiers gives him a bath, but NAPM Seven Counties lands the award through dedicated effort. They even bribed our otherwise honest treasurer with a bottle of Heineken. In spite of the shady behind the scene dealings, they won the award for providing material for the flamingo travel scrapbook from all over the USA.

- In Pittsburg PA. The Flamingo tours Valhalla the returns to a surprise party NAPM-NY hospitality suite. Fortunately, the flamingo can fly to deliver the award to our affiliate from the Big Apple. Everyone else has to wait for crowded elevators.

- In Binghamton, NY - This is the year NAPM-DVIII turned over the conference to ISM NY/NJ Forum. Sir-Change-a-Lot and his Squire attempt to deliver the Flamingo to King Ray the 1st. Their plan is foiled when the flamingo is kidnapped by the NAPM-New Jersey knaves. Later our flamingo is discovered in a Red-Dog carton, on a pile of empties, and the connecting flight is made. Meanwhile NAPM-Glens Falls wins the award for their wedding waltz…They also set a Hawaiian shirt sales record helping the new forum financially.

- In Binghamton NY - A second year in a row. "Lasso" Larry, also known as the "Flamingo Kid" and his side-kick "Saddle-Sore" Stricoff attempt to deliver a herd of flamingos to the rail-head so they can be slaughtered, skinned and canned. Their trail drive is interrupted by Chief "Flame Mingo" and his daughter princess pink-feather. Meanwhile, the evil Raven steals the herd. The pink-flamingo Oscar goes to NAPM-Finger Lakes for their outstanding acting ability. NAPM-Rochester decides to get out of the meat packing business and use a 50/50 raffle instead to support their scholarship.

- In Corning NY. Flamingos decorate the lobby planters. Two cool chicks beam in from the 60's and NAPM-NJ wins the award. The prize is a ride with General Halftrack on his genuine US Army truck.

- In Glens Falls, NY. NAPM-NJ wins again. This time it's for an outstanding recruiting effort. Elvis and Priscilla are introduced as new members, as they again locate our missing flamingo using "inside information". Later on the misrepresentation is discovered in Lake George at the Elvis Look a like contest.

- In Lake Placid NY. The weather was fit for dancing bears, not our floating flamingos. One was kidnapped and held for ransom. She even disappeared from her protective glass enclosure. NAPM-Binghamton for the second time in 15 years wins the prestigious award, simply by showing up with five "spirited" members. This is only fitting, since the award originated back in 1990 when Peter Wallace, a NAPM-Binghamton member liberated our flamingo from its confines on Grand Island..

- In Binghamton NY. The Twilight Zone, the Lost Episode: The screen suddenly filled with squiggly lines. Next thing you know we are transported to the past and a town crier shows up to sing the praises of NAPM-Greater Syracuse. Some of them are still in that other time zone.

- In Binghamton, NY…The trumpet sounds and they are off! Pink Flamingoes race to the roll of hot dice. The ISM-NJ bird passes them all as the crowd cheers. ISM-NJ dashes off again with the pink feathered trophy.

- In Binghamton NY. What a dress! Right out of the roaring 20's. These flappers have style…only they should watch where they are going. The Pool deck is not a good place to do the Charleston. NAPM-Buffalo takes the pink prize.
